Grégoire Imfeld

Founder of ONE Family Governance

Grégoire gathered more than 25 years of experience in the wealth management industry, over half of which in the Family Office space. He was global head of Pictet Family office in his last years, having joined them in 2008. Prior to that he gained experience as a banker at Credit Suisse and Julius Baer as well as business consultancy experience with Andersen consulting. He also developed investment knowledge through the hedge fund company GAM.

His main area of expertise are family governance and family dynamics. He advises families on setting up family offices, wealth strategies, their investment governance and operational governance.

He graduated from the University of London, in Mathematics and Psychology. He is a Fellow and an advanced certificate holder (ACFWA, ACFBA) from the Family Firm Institute (FFI). He publishes regularly articles on the theme of family and investment governance, in Asia, the Middle East and Europe. In 2018, he was recognised by his peers in The Family Capital publication as one of the global “top family office advisers”.

Academic Advisor to ONE Family Governance

Dr. Rania Labaki is Associate Professor of Management at EDHEC Business School and Director of the EDHEC Family Business Centre (France). Her current research interests revolve around the interplay between family dynamics and family business behaviour, in relation with entrepreneurial, financial, socio-cultural and succession decisions.

She serves as Board member of the International Family Enterprise Research Academy (IFERA), Head of the Scientific Committee of FBN France and Program Content Advisor of BFF. She is the FFI Fellow, past-programme committee member and Research & Education Symposium co-chair.

She also serves as Advisory Committee member of the EIASM Workshop on Family Firm Management Research, Women in Family Business (WIFB) and New York City Family Enterprise Centre (NYCFEC). She is co-editor of the Entrepreneurship Research Journal and serves on the review editorial boards of the leading journals specialized in family business.

Among her past appointments, Rania was Associate professor and Director of the Financial and Wealth Management Master Program at the University of Bordeaux, Director of the Family Business Global Executive MBA at EDHEC Business School and Visiting Scholar at Baruch College – The City University of New York, Zhejiang University (China), Zeppelin University (Germany) and Salerno University (Italy). She was also Academic Expert of The Family Business Network International for 7 years, in charge of developing and facilitating programs for the Next Generation international conferences and trainings and providing guidance and support on strategic activities related to education, research and entrepreneurship.

Her contributions to the family business field have been awarded many times by the international community, including the Family Business Review Best Article in 2015 and the Emerald Literati Network Outstanding Reviewer Award in 2014. She is currently a regular contributor to the family business expert columns of the French journals Droit & Patrimoine and Les Echos Solutions.

Rania holds a Master of Business Administration from The Holy Spirit University of Kaslik (Lebanon), a Ph.D. in Management Sciences from the University of Bordeaux (France).

Bilal Zein

Advisor to ONE Family Governance

In 2001 Bilal set up Quanon Capital Ltd (Single Family Office). Services covered include investment strategy, oversight of operating businesses, investment sourcing and deal closing (M&A), Real Estate, Treasury, consolidated reporting, Tax and corporate structuring, Banks and Trustee liaisons as well as lifestyle services. He acts as facilitator and provides governance for the family and the family businesses.

Bilal has 28 years of experience ranging across various sectors such as industrial, real estate, trading, contracting and commercial in the EMEA region. A C-Level executive, he sits on the board of some of operating business.

Kathryn M. MC Carthy

Kathryn McCarthy has extensive, worldwide experience managing the financial affairs of wealthy families and individuals, and for the last 15 years has acted as an independent advisor to families and family offices.

She advises families on a variety of issues relating to their family offices, governance and organizational needs, including:

  • Assessing the value and performance of the family office, investment structures and other family related entities;
  • Establishing family oversight committees including investment and finance committees, and protectorships;
  • Creating and governing family offices and related entities such as private trust companies;

In addition to her advisory work, Ms. McCarthy serves on family office boards of directors, private trust company boards, investment committees and protector structures of global families. She is a director of The Rockefeller Trust Company, N.A., serving also on its audit committee.

Ms. McCarthy is a frequent lecturer on these topics and those related to the structure, management and governance of family offices, family investment companies, private trust companies, and global family protectorships and trusteeships.  Her industry participation includes both global family office/family business forums and associations as well as lecturing at academic institutions such as Columbia University and New York University Graduate Business Schools in New York and Imperial College in London.

Ms. McCarthy is a member of the board of directors of SEI Investments (NASDAQ: SEIC).  Is the lead independent director and serves on the audit, nominating and compensation committees.  She is an advisory director of Silver Lane Advisors, an investment banking boutique in New York City.

Ms. McCarthy is on the editorial advisory board of Trusts & Estates magazine.  Her not-for-profit activities include serving as a Trustee of the Greenacre Foundation founded by a member of the Rockefeller family to operate Greenacre Park on the east side of Manhattan and to support other green spaces and community parks in Manhattan.

Prior to advising family offices, Ms. McCarthy founded and managed family offices. She was the founding President of Marujupu, LLC, the family office of the Sulzberger Family (The New York Times Company), and started the multigenerational family office. She was also a member of the board of directors, the investment committee, and the manager of the Sulzberger Foundation.

Ms. McCarthy was a managing director, a member of the management committee, and the Director of Client Advisory Services at Rockefeller & Co., Inc.  Prior to this role, she was the Senior Financial Counselor at Rockefeller & Co., Inc., where she advised members of the Rockefeller and other families on asset allocation, personal financial planning and strategic wealth management.

Earlier in her career, Ms. McCarthy was the President and co-founder of a wealth advisory firm in New York City and began her professional career in the personal financial planning division of Donaldson Lufkin & Jenrette, Inc. and Alliance Capital Management Corp.

Ms. McCarthy holds an M.B.A in Finance from New York University’s Graduate School of Business Administration, and a J.D. (with honors) from New York Law School. She earned her B.A. from Rosemont College.
